Day 1 - New Zealand Extended Cut
Cecil Peak from Goldfield Heights Prints Available
I've reset my New Zealand day count as this doesn't feel like "surviving lockdown after my Tour Aotearoa" any more. I'm in a new town with new adventures and it very much feels like a new chapter.
I woke up like an excitable child to the surrounding mountains popping out of a cloud inversion. Hands down the most beautiful scenery I've had for a breakfast coffee and I felt strange sensation of bathing in the view. I can't really describe it but filled every bit of me with contentment. I'm in awe of this place.
Marched over an hour to the shops (my Airbnb being affordable yet at the top of a BIG hill out of town) and met up with @shewhodares. My second familiar face in three months! She conveniently works in Macpac so helped my binge on winter gear. If I'm out here for another month or two I can't survive in my cycle kit! I sound like a horse walking around with cleats!
For my trip back I put on my brave pants (I had my rainbow cat pyjamas on under my trousers) and got a local bus home. No idea why but I've always had an irrational fear of public transport abroad. It helped that QT are running them for free right now!
Tonight I walked another 45 minutes down another big hill for a posh dinner with @ejcaswell & @samriley8238 to thank them for their wonder-hosting. Everything is essentially back to normal here. With ONE active case in NZ right now and the population of QT making distancing almost impossible, the only real difference is signing a register at every bar!
@josh.plant.9634 is also in town which is pretty bloody marvellous. Having two friends from the UK here really helps me immediately feel at home.
Ah Queenstown you beautiful b*****rd. This is going to be fun.
Thanks for reading! All my artwork is available as prints/mugs/posters etc.
My adventure content will always be free. I write it for fun! But if you enjoy my content and would like to support my time and creations, why not buy me a digital coffee?
